Architecture and atmosphere
Can Kai sits quietly in the rural landscape of Sant Mateu, surrounded by mature trees and clear views of the rolling, pine-forested hills. The architecture combines classic Ibizan whitewashed walls with exposed local stone elements, including a distinctive round tower that anchors the property. The private grounds are entirely enclosed, offering a deep sense of seclusion.
Inside, the house feels bright and grounded. Natural light fills the living spaces, highlighting the traditional architectural details alongside modern additions like air conditioning, central heating, and a fireplace for cooler evenings. A fully fitted kitchen provides a practical space for preparing meals, with an open flow that makes it easy to move between cooking and relaxing indoors or out.
Bedrooms and outdoor living
The villa sleeps up to seven guests across four bedrooms. Two of these bedrooms feature their own ensuite bathrooms, while the remaining rooms share the third bathroom. Each room maintains the home's calm aesthetic, keeping the focus on the surrounding country views.
Outside, a large lawn slopes gently down to the rectangular infinity pool. The water reflects the open sky, bordered by native plants and a low stone wall. Metal-framed sunloungers with thick white cushions and umbrellas line the grass, offering clear sightlines over the valley.
Closer to the house, a wooden pergola with sheer white curtains shades an outdoor lounge area. Here, low sofas with blue cushions sit around a coffee table, creating a comfortable spot to read or gather. A separate alfresco dining table and a barbecue sit ready for evening meals in the open air.
Pacing your day
With its expansive lawn and secure, private grounds, Can Kai works well for families or groups of couples wanting space to spread out. The layout allows for easy mornings moving from the bedrooms out to the terraces for coffee. Because the property includes multiple terraces and a large garden, everyone can find a quiet corner to read or rest.
A typical day here revolves around the outdoors. You might spend the afternoon moving between the infinity pool and the shaded hammock, listening to the cicadas. As the heat of the day fades, the group can gather at the outdoor dining table for a barbecue, staying outside as the stars appear over the valley.
Exploring Sant Mateu and San Antonio
While Sant Mateu offers deep rural quiet, the wider municipality of Sant Antoni de Portmany provides an engaging contrast. The villa places you within a short drive of northern villages like San Joan and the cafes and boutiques of Santa Gertrudis. For beach days, the northern coves of Benirras and Cala San Vicente are easily reached by car.
Heading west brings you to the lively town of San Antonio. Known for its broad yacht-filled bay and legendary sunsets along the Sunset Strip, the town offers a sharp change of pace from the villa's calm. You can spend the late afternoon watching the sky change at Cafe del Mar or Cafe Mambo, before exploring nearby west-coast beaches like Cala Gracio, Cala Gracioneta, or the sandy stretch of S'Arenal.
