Flying to Ibiza from the US: the 2027 Newark nonstop, connections and planning a villa stay

For the first time, Americans will be able to fly to Ibiza without changing planes. This is what we know about the new route, how to get here from the rest of the US, and how our guests from the States plan a villa week around it.

By Mirko Banno, founder of Ibiza Beyond

Until now, getting from the United States to Ibiza always meant changing planes somewhere in Europe. From summer 2027 that changes: United Airlines has announced the first nonstop flight between the US and the island, from Newark. Here is what is known about it so far, how to get here from the rest of the country, and what is different when you book a villa from the other side of the Atlantic.

Status in October 2026: United announced the route in August 2026, subject to US and Spanish government approval. The days of the week, flight times and fares have not been published yet. We will update this guide when they are, so check united.com before you book.

The Newark nonstop: what we know

The new route is part of United's largest international expansion for 2027, which also adds other Mediterranean destinations from Newark.

Flying with one stop

If your dates fall outside the nonstop season, or you prefer another airline, you connect in Europe. The usual options:

Two tips from guests who have done it many times:

  1. Book everything on one ticket. If the transatlantic flight is late, the airline rebooks your connection. On separate tickets, a missed connection is your problem.
  2. Leave time for passport control at the connecting airport. You enter the Schengen area at your first European stop, so that is where you queue at immigration, not in Ibiza. On the Newark nonstop you clear immigration in Ibiza instead.

Entry rules for US citizens

These are the rules as of October 2026. Check the official sources before you travel, because the EU is changing how it records visitors.

Timing: the nonstop season is the villa season

The United flights run from the end of May to early October, the same months our villas are busiest. The cheapest of those months are not the hottest ones. In our 2027 rates:

Villa sizeJuneJulySeptember
4 bedrooms€10,900€13,800€10,100
6 bedrooms or more€18,700€21,400€18,000

These are median weekly prices for the whole villa in our collection. June and September have warm sea, long days and noticeably lower prices than July and August. Our guide to Ibiza villa prices has every month, size and area.

Ibiza is six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of California. With one stop, evening departures from the East Coast usually land in Ibiza around the middle of the next day. Plan an easy first afternoon by the pool: ask for the fridge to be stocked before you arrive, and keep dinner close to the villa.

Booking a villa from the US: what is different

Prices are in euros, for the whole villa per week. On top of the weekly price you will see a refundable security deposit and the Balearic sustainable tourism tax, charged per adult per night. Optional services, from a private chef to a boat day, are quoted separately before you arrive.

Match the villa to the flight days. In July and August many villas only rent full weeks with a fixed changeover day. With four nonstop flights a week, not every changeover day will line up with a flight, so check both before you pay for either. Outside the peak, many villas accept shorter stays.

Only book a licensed villa. Every holiday rental in Ibiza needs a tourist license (ETV). An unlicensed house can be closed by an inspection in the middle of your stay, and rental scams target guests who book from far away and cannot see the property first. Our guide on checking a villa's tourist license shows how to verify it. Every villa we offer is licensed, and you get a written quote and contract in English before you book.

Groups are easy, if you book early. Many of our American guests travel for a milestone birthday, a family reunion or a wedding. We have about two dozen villas that sleep 12 or more, the largest up to 18 guests, and a selection that accept weddings and events. These are the first to go for July and August.

You will want a car or a driver. Almost all villas are in the countryside. Spain asks US visitors to carry an International Driving Permit with their US license; you can get one from AAA before you leave. If nobody in your group wants to drive, we arrange transfers and a driver.

Where to stay

Ibiza is only about forty kilometers long, so no villa is far from the airport. The choice of area depends on the holiday: the east around Santa Eulalia for families, the south-west for beaches and sea views, the north for quiet countryside, close to Ibiza Town for restaurants and nightlife. Our guide on where to stay in Ibiza compares every area.

How we help guests flying in from the US

We are a local agency on the island. When you send us your dates and your group, we reply with a shortlist of licensed villas and exact quotes, and we check that the changeover day works with your flights. Before you land we can book your airport transfer, stock the kitchen, and arrange a private chef, a boat day to Formentera or restaurant tables, all at the price we quote in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct flight from the US to Ibiza?

From 31 May 2027 United Airlines plans the first nonstop between the US and Ibiza, from Newark (EWR), four times a week until early October. United announced it in August 2026, subject to US and Spanish government approval. Outside those dates, and from other US airports, you fly with one connection in Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon or London.

How long is the flight from New York to Ibiza?

The Newark nonstop is expected to take around eight hours; United has not yet published the exact schedule. With one connection in Madrid or Barcelona, plan on roughly 11 to 13 hours from the East Coast, including the change of planes.

Do US citizens need a visa to visit Ibiza?

No. Ibiza is in Spain and the Schengen area, where US citizens can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least three months after the day you leave and have been issued within the last ten years. As of October 2026 the EU's ETIAS travel authorization is not yet required; check the official EU travel site before you fly.

Can I drive in Ibiza with a US driver's license?

Spain asks US visitors to carry an International Driving Permit together with their US license. You can get one from AAA before you leave. Most villas are in the countryside, so you will need a car or a driver; we can arrange either.

When should I book a villa and flights for summer 2027?

Most of our guests confirm their villa between January and March, and the best houses for July and August go first. Book the flight as soon as your dates are fixed, and match it to the villa's changeover day: in high summer many villas only accept full weeks starting on a fixed day.

What is the best month for a trip to Ibiza from the US?

June or September. The Newark nonstop flies in both months, the sea is warm, and in our 2027 rates a 4-bedroom villa costs roughly 20 to 27% less than in July or August.
